When Aphrodite’s Child met Salvador Dali

A year after the completion of their legendary ‘666’ album, Vangelis hosted a party at the Europa Sonor Studio.

At the time, the album remained unreleased and was stuck in limbo, delayed by the record company’s efforts to censor parts of it.

Among the party guests were Salvador Dalí and Amanda Lear, alongside Vangelis and other members of Aphrodite’s Child, actor Irene Pappas, director Michael Cacoyannis and more.

Dali arrived, surrounded by his bodyguards and demanded to hear the whole 80 minutes of the album in silence!

His reaction was more than enthusiastic. He said that the music was “a music of stone” (“C’ est oune mouzique de pierre” he said) and reminded him of the church of Sagrada Famiglia of Gaudi in Barcelona.
